OSFL Chamber Series

West End Gallery Musicians' ChoiceBecause of its intimate nature, chamber music has been described as "the music of friends" where audiences connect to the "conversation" of the musicians because the music is played in intimate spaces.

Our first concert is conducted by Maestro Shimada and played by a smaller Orchestra at Christ Church in Corning. The series concludes with two of our popular OSFL Chamber Series concerts, one at the Rockwell Museum of Western Art and the other at the Chemung Valley History Museum.

Made Possible in Partnership – the OSFL Chamber Series is sponsored by CEMA, the Rockwell Museum of Western Art in Corning, and Chemung Valley History Museum in Elmira.

Christ Episcopal Church, Corning

Director: Toshiyuki Shimada
Guest Artists: Tyler Ogilvie, Horn; Jangmin Kug, Mezzo

Many of our own connections often begin with inspiration. Corelli's exquisite Italian instrumental style that you'll hear in his fourth Concerto Grosso also served a similar purpose for Vivaldi, another extraordinary composer-violinist. The beautiful, dark voice quality of our guest mezzo-soprano Jangmin Kug provides a perfect fit for Vivaldi's masterpiece, Stabat Mater -a Roman Catholic hymn to Mary. Ms. Kug, a Painted Post resident, has been heard on the operatic stage and the recital hall throughout much of the world. Toshi ushers in the classical period and a change of mood and character with Mozart's Second Horn Concerto performed by our fine Principal Hornist Tyler Ogilvie. Mozart's hunting horn makes another appearance in his rich and dramatic 29th Symphony, our closing work, unbelievably written at the age of 18.

Program:

CORELLI Concerto grosso in D Major, Op. 6, No. 4
VIVALDI Stabat Mater (Jangmin Kug, Mezzo)
MOZART Horn Concerto No. 2 (Tyler Ogilvie, Horn)
MOZART Symphony No. 29 in A Major
